UN Women

Some people may know that UN- Women is a combination of several once separate organizations under the UN that had the same goal; the advancement of women and securing their rights all over the world. This meeting i attended was geared to toward the creation of a new resolution they would put forward. The resolution would included the goals for the up coming year, a break down of what they included, how they would achieve (who would be a part of what and the financial aspect). Some of the nations present for the meeting where; USA, UK, India, Russian Federation, Argentina, Japan, Tanzania, Canada, Malaysia, Norway, and many more.  Many people forget that even here in the United States women do not have equal pay as men for the same job, but in many other countries women have more worries than their salary some worry about their very lives.
The problem many people see with the UN is the enforcement of their decisions, this resolution will tackle that problem as well with a break down of check ins and reports and investigations into how things are progressing the frequency of these check ins have yet to be determined. Everything must follow a tight rule of law and procedure, all the i's must be dotted and t's crossed

The purpose is to formulate a focused vision of the organization to meet its goals. The plan needs to be comprehensive and detailed.  It is intended to be an integrative 2 1/2 year plan.  The ultimate goal is to have cooperation and consistency in the organization, including the normative ideals on national, regional and global levels.

Questions
1.            Malaysia -- is the April 27 draft the final copy that will be voted on and passed?
A.  The document is not set in stone, it is open to feed back and correction but they will try to get it done properly as soon as possible.
2.         Tanzania -- supports the expeditious creation of the draft.
3.            Japan-- when will the field capacity results be available?
A.            Hopefully next week.
4.            Canada--  there should be a long term plan to  communicate the results and set a realistic frame work for a 2.5yrs , what are the main priorities? It needs to be clear who/what partnerships are in some focus plans.
A.             They understand that the other groups are important and know success can not be achieved without cooperation.
5.            Pakistan-- How are they going to proceed from here?  Are they going to come up with something specific?
A:            Wait for the first draft to be posted before giving your input.
5.            Norway—What happens after the 27th,  who has been consulted, and what are their responses, preferably in writing?
A.            They  will gladly provide the information from the annotations.  After the 27th, hopefully the draft will be completed.  The latest date for completion is the 11th.
6.            India-- How will this help or effect UNFEM?  Is there a way to show the changes to come and how this new organization has evolved since it's creation? How will the new plan affect the field work?
A.            They  will still use some of the format and existing communities of UNFEM. They will also learn from the lessons learned from the former organizations.  They found that the past review found that where they were spread out on the ground, they were not nearly as effective as they could have been.
7.            United State--- How will you ensure that the beliefs that have been presented by the consultants in the field have been understood?
UN-Women is not just developing countries, there is much more, how will this be demonstrated?
A.            The term "developing" is not referring to the status of the nation but comprehensive development of women in all aspects globally.
8.            Argentina-- Is the date of the 12th given enough time to hear back from the capitals after the draft has been presented?
A.            The board had decided on the date of the 27th, this may be changed to May 15.
